When communicating with media always:
  1. Obtain the name of the person calling, the media organization and, the time information will go to print or broadcast. This information should be included when you notify the director of Public Relations.
  2. Always make sure you understand each question from the media before answering.
  3. If you feel uncomfortable providing a response, take the reporter's number and advise him/her to contact Paine College’s Office of Public Relations at 706-432-0947.
  4. Try to avoid answering reporters’ questions with “no comment” and avoid using the term “off the record.” 
  5. Never offer speculation or gossip to media contacts.
  6. Provide your phone number and/or e-mail address for follow-up questions.
  7. Remember that in responding to the media, as an official Paine College employee you are representing and speaking for the college.
  8. Issues that should not be discussed with reporters are a campus crisis or emergency, legal issues, personnel issues, and questions that involve Paine College integrity. Refer all such inquiries to the Office of Public Relations.
