Come celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Paine College is hosting the Annual Tri-College Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration at Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel on the Paine College campus on Friday January 12, 2018 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM (ET). The keynote speaker will be Educator and Civil Rights Activist Dr. Cleveland L. Sellers, Jr. This celebration is a collaboration between Augusta Technical College, Augusta University and Paine College.

Dr. Sellers participated in the march from Selma to Montgomery led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He became involved in the civil rights movement after the death of Emmett Till and in 1965 was named the program director of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. His memoir "The River of No Return" was published in 1973. His book highlights the rise of the civil rights movement and black consciousness. He has his bachelor's degree from Shaw University, his master's from Harvard University, and his doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is the former president of Voorhees College and the former director of the African-American Studies Program at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Augusta University will be providing shuttle service to and from the chapel between 10 AM and 3 PM. Buses will be arriving and leaving from the shuttle stop in front of the University Hall on the Summerville Campus. There is also limited parking at the Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel (where the event is being held) on the Paine College Campus.
