Each year, proceeds from the Father-Daughter Gala are donated to local non-profit organizations to support their mission and, in many cases, to provide scholarships for deserving students at local colleges and universities.  Paine College was among several organizations that received a donation.

"No gift is too small or too large," said Dr. Samuel Sullivan who received a check from local business owner Robert O’Neal in the amount of $1,000.  "This show of support demonstrates that Paine College is a sound investment and remains at the heart of the community,” said Dr. Sullivan, Interim President of Paine College.

The College launched the Build it Back Campaign in November 2015 to meet immediate and critical needs of the Institution.  During the 2016 Founders’ Day and Homecoming celebration, the Vice President of Institutional Advancement Sunya L. Young announced that the Campaign had reached over $460,246 and is ongoing.

Mr. O’Neal is President and CEO of The O’Neal Group, Inc. and agency owner of Bob O’Neal Insurance Agency, Allstate Insurance Company.  Mr. O’Neal, the brainchild behind the Father-Daughter Gala, said his daughter introduced him to a similar event in 2007.   He was so impressed with the experience and the time shared with his daughter that he was led to create the Father-Daughter Gala and Dance that is traditionally held on Fathers’ Day at Legends Club in Augusta.  “Although Allstate Insurance Agency is the official host of the Father-Daughter Gala, there are many people in the background who work diligently to make the event a success,” he said.  “Under the auspices of OuiCare International, Inc., we provide financial resources to support the mission of local charities while helping to strengthen the bonds of the family that lend to stronger communities.”

“This event has, in many ways, become a ministry for me,” commented Mr. O’Neal.  “In its ninth year, the event has touched many lives and helped to improve relationships between fathers and their daughters.”  There are no age limits, religious or ethnic boundaries.  I’ve witnessed grandfathers and granddaughters take to the floor awkwardly and emerge with pure confidence and joy.  Improving relationships between fathers and daughters is at the heart of what we do and that is what makes our work special.”

“We are grateful to Robert O’Neal and appreciative of the Augusta community, alumni and friends who continue to support the College.  “Paine, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), is on Probation and will have to demonstrate to the SACSCOC Review Team that it is fiscally stable during its spring 2016 review.  I am appealing to the College’s constituents to give generously.
