The world-renowned Dance Theatre of Harlem will visit Paine College this month to conduct an athletic workshop. The workshop will be held on Friday, January 29th from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the HEAL Complex.

The Dance Theatre of Harlem is known for challenging classical ballet. Led by artistic director, Virginia Johnson, the group’s repertoire ranges from classics to contemporary. The Dance Theatre of Harlem has performed across the country and abroad. Their dance is described as “swift, elegant, and crisp.”

The group is slated to perform at the end of the Augusta Ballet’s first-ever New Traditions Dance Festival at the Bell Auditorium on Saturday, January 30 at  7:30 PM.  During their visit to Augusta, the group will also hold master classes with area dance students in addition to the workshop at Paine College.

“This is another great opportunity for team bonding,” said Paine College Men's Basketball Coach Chase Campbell. “I thought that would be something unique and fun that all of our athletes could do together.” The workshop will help the athletes work on fast-twitch muscles reaction which would allow them to react quicker and become more agile on the court.

This workshop is free and open to the public. Additional information is available by phone (706) 821-8233 or e-mail marketing@paine.edu. For more information about their performance at the Bell Auditorium visit http://www.augustaentertainmentcomplex.com.
