Paine College To Host High School MLK Day Academic Bowl

The Paine College Honda All-Star team will collaborate Dr. Lawanda Cummings and the program PC-IDEAL (Paine College: Informing, Developing, and Educating through Active Learning), to host the 2016 High School MLK Academic Bowl on Monday, January 18th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Candler Memorial Library on the Paine College campus. 

Students from area high schools including Butler High School, Lucy Laney High School, Hephzibah High School, and Burke County High School will compete in a quiz tournament that will include a variety of topics including world history, science, literature, religion, the arts, social science and popular culture. 

"It is an honor to have a High School Academic Bowl in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King to exhibit the knowledge of the students and show how committed and eager the young people are to learn and compete," said Ms. Uzetta Gresham,  "It is a pleasure to see the high school students come out and take part in a competition."  

Paine College is one of the many HBCUs that take part in the each year in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) where they compete against HBCU’s throughout the country. The team is under the leadership of Ms. Uzetta Gresham and Campus Coordinator, Dr. Catherine Adams.  

Honda Campus All-Stars are sponsored by the Honda Corporation. More than $7.5 million in grants from Honda have provided support for book & tuition scholarships, facilities upgrades, and other investments to improve the student experience.
