Paine College student and Accounting Major, Chika Okanya, has been selected to serve as a student ambassador for the White House Initiative on HBCUs. As a student ambassador, Okanya will work with the White House Initiative on HBCUs for one year to advance President Barack Obama’s Executive Order 13532.

The program is geared toward promoting the ability for students to reach their educational and career potential through higher education. The All-Star Student Ambassadors will participate in social media initiatives along with attending regional and national events “that support a spirit of engagement and personal and professional development.”

“This opportunity is a huge blessing,” Okanya said. “As the representative for Paine College, I have the chance to make a lasting impact by promoting excellence, innovation, and sustainability at HBCUs.”

Okanya was invited to represent the College at the HBCU Conference Week in September in Washington, D.C.

In addition to being a student ambassador, Okanya has received numerous honors. Last year, he was elected to a one-year term as a student member of the Board of Directors of the National Collegiate Honors Council. He is also an ADP Scholar and the recipient of nine other prestigious scholarships. Okanya plans to attend Harvard Business School, Yale Business School,  Duke University, or Penn State Business School to study Forensic Accounting then pursue a Doctorate degree in Accounting.
