Turlock, CA- The first day of competition of the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships in Turlock, California produced impressive results for Paine College Freshman Baiesha Johnson in the long jump competition. Johnson advanced to the National Championships by posting a qualifying mark of 5.96m, March 25, 2011 at the Winthrop University Invite, and later went on to claim the title of SIAC Women’s Long Jump Champion 2011.
The competition in the long jump pit was very close, where New Mexico Highlands’ Jillisa Grant took claims to the national title, after she moved past UC San Diego’s Stephanie LeFever on her second-to-last leap to claim the title. Paine College Lady Lion, Baiesha Johnson took the third place medal, jumping 5.99 meters, LeFever leapt 6.18m to take second, and Grant recorded a jump of 6.36meters.
The Division II National Championships are being held at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium in Turlock, California, and will continue until Saturday, May 28, 2011.
Baiesha will also be representing Paine College and the SIAC in the Women’s High Jump Competition, scheduled for Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 6:00 PM.
The Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be streamed live at NCAA.com, each day of the championships.
