It must be Carter Gymnasium!  After coming off of a three game road swing, and losing each game to Fort Valley State University (53-63), Albany State University (63-64), and Morehouse (72-78), it appeared that the Lions might let this one slip away too.  Well the Lions decided they had a trick for the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College, and overcame a nine point deficit with 1:40 seconds remaining to add another win to their record, Thursday January 20, 2011 in Carter Gymnasium.

A free throw shot by LeMoyne-Owen’s Chris Brown gave the Magicians the nine point lead, but the Lions would not stop.

Junior Chris Hunt connected on a jumper to cut the lead to seven, a turnover by the Magicians, and then Mario Jordan connected on a big three-pointer. Now the lead is four, when Magicians Calvin Stoudemire fouled Chris Hunt, who went to the free-throw line connected on two freebies, and the lead was cut to two.  And who would think it, déjà vu; Stoudemire fouled Chris Hunt again, but this time Hunt missed both free-throws.

The Magicians get the ball with 15 seconds remaining, and of course the Lions were able to get a quick foul. AJ Nance, who finished the game with 17 points, hit both of his free-throws to give the Magicians a 75-79 lead, despite taunts by the Lions most loyal supporters.

With 15 seconds remaining, freshman Preston Hodge (pictured) took the ball down the court, and connected on a big three pointer, and now the Lions are down by one (78-79), but the Magicians ran out of tricks, turned the ball over.   Thomas Broughton connected on a two point basket, got fouled, made the free throw to give the Lions their first lead of the second half (81-79) and ultimately the win of the SIAC contest.

Four Lions scored double digit pints in the 81-79 victory, including Mario Jordan with 22 points, Tony Baker 19 points, Thomas Broughton 15 points, and Chris Hunt 12 points.

The Magicians were led by David McKinnie who finished with 21 points.

With the win, the Lions improve to 6-9; 6-8 SIAC and the Magicians fall to 3-12; 3-9 SIAC.

The Lions will host Miles College Bears, Saturday, January 22, 2011 immediately following the Lady Lions who will tip-off with the Lady Bears of Miles College at 1:00 PM.
