(Augusta, GA)- Paine College will host its annual Painefest event, October 30, 2010 on the campus of Paine College from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PaineFest is an annual campus event that occurs during the month of October and is designed to bring people together of all ages and backgrounds to engage in activities that connect the Paine College community with the broader community through its core values of excellence, appreciation of heritage, integrity, fiscal responsibility and service. This year’s theme is “Going from Good to Great in the Community”.
"The institution wants to go from good to great in the community and that’s important. We want to be good neighbors. We want to share with the community the direction of the college,” said Brandon Brown, vice president of Institutional Advancement.
The week will feature several events for Paine College students, alumni and friends. The Paine College Arts Festival, which is FREE and open to the public. The College has teamed up with several churches, schools and community groups to plan events that will be fun and enlightening. The community is invited the to register for the Performing Arts Competitions (Music, Dance, Theatre, Choir competitions). Local cooks and restaurants can register for The Barbeque Cook-off Competition. Everyone is encouraged to bring their families to enjoy the free festivities.
The College is also partnering with the Wounded Warriors Care Project. Wounded Warriors, active service men and women, and veterans are invited to for a special tribute at 12:00 Noon. The Paine College Mass Communications Department will videotape of the personal accounts and stories of anyone willing to share. The footage will be edited and archived in the Paine College, Collins-Calloway Library to be shared with other communities throughout the country. Registration is FREE for Wounded Warriors and Service men and women.
"It’s our way of saying thank you to the Augusta community,” Brown said. “One of the things we’ve done is really look at the dedication and commitment our troops have made — engage and talk with soldiers, interview them, and we really want to show recognition to these soldiers."
Children can look forward to the Children’s Art Village, which will include face painting, arts and crafts, sing-a-longs and much more. This event is sponsored by New Tools New Vision 2. Adults can enjoy food court, vendors’ court, art exhibition and book signings by Georgia and South Carolina Authors. ALL EVENTS WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE PAINE COLLEGE CAMPUS.
