Sheila Ann Paige is a higher learning Intitutions dream. She is a student with a 4.0 GPA and a valued staff member at the historic and prominent Paine College, that considers herself extremely fortunate to be earning a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Business Management and is able to earn wages to support her family, from the same institution. She is the Assistant to the Director of Residence Life and the Director of Student Activities in the Student Affairs Department. She was born in Aiken, South Carolina and currently resides there with her two daughters Marika and Keviana.
Sheila fondly recalls the following about her very first visit to PC as a high-school student; “In 1987, I came to Paine College to take my PSAT and fell in love with the institution. Unfortunately, my parents could not afford to pay for me to attend college and life took me down a different path. I started working for a manufacturing company and was complacent for many years, until the corporation closed its doors while I was out on maternity leave. The Department of Labor offered me assistance to find another job or the opportunity to further my education. Even though I was hesitant to go back to school after 18 years, I chose the latter option.”
Paige is proud of her decision because she never imagined that 30 years after her first steps on the PC campus, she would be achieving a college education and become a vital part of the renowned Paine College faculty and staff family. She transferred into the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) and will graduate in May, 2017. Sheila is afforded the privilege to experience dual roles by being a part of the student-body and a member of the staff. She says “it is rewarding to be a listening ear and give advice to the other students as they matriculate through Paine College.” Her affiliations and achievements are numerous.
Sheila was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in November 2007; was awarded Student of the Month in November 2007; earned her spot on the Dean’s List for calendar years 2006-2010; was honored with the title Female Student Marshal for her 3.95 GPA; was awarded Outstanding Student in Office Systems Technology in April 2008 and the list of achievements continue in great length and with remarkable notoriety. She was inducted into Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society during the Spring 2016 semester and is looking forward to being inducted into Delta Mu Delta prior to graduation.
“I strongly believe the Lion of Judah is on our side, just like the words from my favorite inspirational song, Warrior, by Stephen Curtis Chapman, reminds us. It is no happenstance that the Paine College mascot is a lion. This institution is our pride. I remain a student and employed at PC because I have faith. Paine has the best faculty and staff. They are here for the students, care about their success and will not let anything stand in the way of that. Paine College will prevail and rise stronger. I agree with the following quote by Dave Willis: Faith isn’t a feeling. It’s a choice to trust God even when the road ahead seems uncertain,” said Sheila.
Paine College is truly a unique HBCU. Students and staff rave about the family environment, sincere guidance to success and deep-rooted history at the institution that educates, employs and empowers them to be exceptional. Its students are brilliant and bright, the faculty and staff reach above and beyond, and the life and leadership lessons taught within the halls and walls encourage all to be extraordinary citizens and charitable Alumni.
