Senior PGA Golfer Jim Dent to receive Key to the City for Philanthrophic Support of Local Golf Program

AUGUSTA, GA) - Paine College invites golfers to the Inaugural Paine College Golf Tournament on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Jones Creek Golf Club in Evans, Georgia.

Golfers who participate will be playing for a worthy cause. All of the proceeds from this tournament will benefit the Paine College Golf Program and golf scholarships. Senior PGA Golfer, Jim Dent will play in the tournament.  Golfers and guests will have a chance to meet and share the course with him. Mayor Deke Copenhaver will also present Dent with the key to the city of Augusta, GA at 12:30 p.m.

Shotgun start time is 1:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin, longest drive, and Hole-In-One. Participants can also look forward to a silent auction, raffles and first, second and third place team prizes. Subway locations on Walton Way and 13th Street, and Coca Cola Bottling Company provided lunch for registered golfers and volunteers.

“Partnering with Paine College to increase scholarships for deserving student athletes demonstrates the  community’s strong commitment and willingness to invest in our competitive golf program,” said George C. Bradley, president of Paine College. “Building a robust scholarship fund increases access to a quality education.”

Other tournament highlights include a “Beat the Pro” contest featuring golf pro, Kyle Bradley of North Augusta, South Carolina. The Paine College Golf Team will be introduced at the 19th Hole Reception.

Among the prizes, Lowes Home Improvement Store located on Peach Orchard Road donated a deluxe charcoal grill. Jim Hudson Lexus offered a Lexus as a Hole-In-One prize, and PF Chang’s China Bistro donated gift cards for every golfer who comes closest to the pin at the 9th hole. Sponsors such as Phoenix Printing, Double Tree Hotel, First Impressions, Graves Engineering Services, Inc., Jones Creek Golf Club, Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc., and WJBF News Channel 6 supported the worthy cause.
