Paine College Freshman Augusta Sports Council Collegiate Star Award Finalist

(AUGUSTA, GA)--Paine College Freshman, Carlos Solis has been named a finalist for theCollegiate Star Award by the Augusta Sports Council for its 21st Annual G.A.M.E.S. Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center. The winner will be announced at the program, which begins at 7:00 p.m.
 
Augusta Sports Council honors athletes of all abilities at the local, state and national levels through a series of events and awards each year.  The Collegiate Star is awarded to the outstanding male or female athlete from an area college. The candidate must exude outstanding athletic prowess, coupled with a high level of sportsmanship.
 
Solis was one of the players responsible for the team’s historic Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SIAC) Golf Classic win in April, resulting in the first SIAC Conference golf title in the College’s history. Solis was named SIAC Player of the Year, SIAC Freshman of the Year, and Tournament MVP.
 
Area high school and adult athletes in numerous sports are honored each May at the Sports Awards Gala through the Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports (G.A.M.E.S.) awards program. The 2012 G.A.M.E.S. Awards banquet will feature motivational speaker, author, entrepreneur and athlete Kyle Maynard. This year's banquet is presented by the Augusta Sports Council, Augusta Coca-Cola, Georgia Power and the Gerald Jones Auto Group.
