What Should I expect on the Reading Placement Test?
The primary purpose of the Reading Placement Test is to provide a trustworthy ranking
of student ability in three areas of academic achievement: vocabulary development,
reading comprehension, and reading rate. These important skills are related and
interdependent. The Reading Placement Test is composed of two subtests: Vocabulary
and Comprehension. The Vocabulary section consists of 80 items, each with five answer
choices, and has a time limit of 15 minutes. The Comprehension section contains
seven reading passages and a total of 38 questions, each with five answer choices.
The time limit for this section is 20 minutes.
The result of this test will be used by your advisor to determine your reading ability
to master various college courses.
