The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications is designed to ensure that students learn the mission and responsibilities of mass communications in a diverse, democratic society, and that student learn to communicate effectively in such a society. Programs offer up-to-date instruction with a balance of courses between theoretical, conceptual, and professional skill, including studies in history, function, procedure, law and ethics. Each of the four Mass Communications tracks ensures that students will acquire the necessary knowledge, values, and competencies for pursuing careers in the field.

Programs are also designed to ensure a balance between courses in speech, journalism, drama, mass communications, and other liberal arts disciplines. Students will receive rigorous, practical training as well as demanding scholarly instruction, leading to the development of competency in the use of language and visual literacy. Students will learn to gather, analyze, organize, synthesize and communicate information in formats appropriate to particular forms of journalism, broadcasting, drama, and public relations. Through co-enrollment with Augusta State University (ASU), students may elect to take courses at ASU subject to approval and recommendations by the student’s Advisor, coordinator, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
