The courses in the Division of Humanities prepare all students that matriculate at Paine College to appreciate aesthetic beauty whether it is in the visual arts, the performing arts, music, language, or literature. They provide the students with knowledge to help stimulate their thinking, lift up the heart, amuse and entertain them. These courses provide students with the knowledge to re-create in language those experiences, great and small, that they treasure as they become intensely aware of themselves and the world as they broaden their horizons. In addition, the courses are intended to encourage students to observe, to wonder, to inspire, or in short, to realize more completely what it is to be human.

The Division of Humanities offers courses in seven areas: Art, English, Foreign Languages, Mass Communications, Philosophy and Religion, and Music. Students may major in English, English Secondary Education, Philosophy and Religion, and Mass Communication. Minors are offered in Art, English, Philosophy and Religion, French, and Spanish.
